Qld Business Boost Grant Round 3 Opens 6th September 2023!

This one is a little different; it’s for more money BUT there is a 50% co-contribution.  So the grant amount is between $10K and $20K which means you need to spend between $20K and $40K, which can occur over a 12-month period.  It can be used for a number of things, including strategic future planning, strategic business coaching, specialist software, professional development and more.  There are also things it cannot be used for which include day-to-day operational costs, wages, website hosting, fleet fees, franchise fees, crypto, barter, SEO etc.  The application process is broken up into 3 segments:

  1. Pre-registration which will be purely by ballot and essentially is luck – this opens 9am on 6 Sep 2023; closing 5pm, 12 September 2023.
  2. Your application.  If you are successful in the ballot and invited to submit; you’ll have between 9am 20.9.23 and closes at 5pm on 10.10.23.  This is not luck and is a competitive grant; not everyone who applies will attain funding.
  3. Step 3 – you’ll need a letter from your accountant if you’re successful at stage 2.

Eligibility includes, but not limited to:

  • Funding only for amounts as outlined below.
  • Your turnover must be under $300K
  • Have 2 to 19 employees (headcount, not equivalent number)
  • Have an ABN and be GST registered
  • Have Queensland headquarters
  • Not have got funding in rounds 1 or 2
  • Be insolvent, established, financially sound and without previously bankrupt directors or owners.

Here is the link to my blog on the subject with more info.

100% Fully Government Subsidized Training – Dec 2020

As a response to COVID-19, the Queensland Government is providing further training options and Online Courses Australia is one of the service providers.  This means it’s genuinely free and what I was pleasantly surprised to learn is that your approval into the program is not just for one course or subject, but access to the entire learning hub.  You can do one, two or as many subjects as you like.  These are fully online and whilst this won’t last forever you do have 6 months to complete from registration.  Some courses are longer and some are micro-credentials and as short as 4 hours.  This is all Australian content and covers a large range of industries including Business.

You must be a Queensland person or business (you’ll need to upload ID to prove this) plus a tick box that you’ve been affected by COVID-19 (who hasn’t?).  There really isn’t too much more criteria; it’s open to business or employees of a business.

To learn more and register go to this link.  Please don’t email me with questions; I’m not an agent of this organisation, just sharing opportunities with my network.  As a Brisbane Business Coach, I’m always encouraging business owners and individuals to increase their skills and knowledge.

Budget Highlights for Business – Oct 2020

Budget 2020

From the Morrison Governments budget this week, here are the highlights around business:

  • Tax cuts, effective immediately (20-21 tax year) where the 19% tax bracket rises to $45K and the 32.5% bracket jumps from $90K to $120K.  If you are an employer, be sure to start using the new rates ASAP.
  • Payment to business of up to $200 a week to employ young workers.
  • A coy with turnover up to $5bn can offset losses against previous year profits and essentially get a refund!
  • Extension of JobKeeper to end of March 2021.
  • Funding for 50,000 online short courses for workers and the unemployed.
  • If your turnover is less than $5bn – you can deduct the full cost of a capital asset purchase (from 8.10.20 to 30.6.2022).
  • Businesses below $50M turnover can use ‘full expensing’ for second-hand assets; businesses with $50-500M turnover can do so for items less than $150K.
  • FBT exemptions for staff who have redeployed staff to a different role.
  • An investment of $4.5bn to NBN and $29M to hasten the 5G network rollout.
  • Super – workers will keep their super fund when they change employers and there will be a new online YourSuper comparison tool to help compare funds.
  • Something that affects us all – $2.3bn in funding for COVID-19 treatments and vaccines.   Additionally, funds for reducing Aussie environmental emissions, funding for renewable energy, funding pilot programs around hydrogen and to have accelerated timeframes for the approval process around projects – new and planned.

*************************************************************************************************

JobKeeper Extends – With Variances – Oct 2020

You won’t have to re-enroll in the system but you will have to prove a decline in actual GST Turnover, comparing to a comparable period – which I believe will be done quarterly.  There are now two tiers with ‘tier 1’ being employees who work 80 hours or more in 4 weeks.  ‘Tier 2’ are those employees who work less than that.  You will need to continue to do your monthly declaration, pay your staff and seek reimbursement for that month just past.  That’s all the same.  What will be different now, of course, are the rates per eligible employee:

28/9/2020 to 3/1/2021 – tier 1 is $1200/FN, or tier 2 is $750/FN

4/1/2021 to 28/3/2021 – tier 1 is $1000/FN, or tier 2 is $650/FN.

Qld State Adaption Grant – Round 2 – Jun 2020

Queensland Government GrantsThis is opening 1.7.2020 and I strongly recommend you read, prepare and have everything ready.  Round one went in about five days and it’s rumored this one will go within 24 hours.  In speaking to the Department, they will be tougher; so “ensure it’s perfect”.  If you have been approved in round one, you cannot apply again, but if you haven’t heard or were unsuccessful, you can apply again.  I asked about the timing of approvals for round one and unfortunately it’s very likely many of the 11,000 applicants from round one will not hear before 1st July. They have said you will hear regardless of successful or unsuccessful.

There are naturally criteria, but recheck the new details as a few things are different.  Also, it’s going to be tougher for some as I believe 50% of funds are being allocated to regional areas.

To check your eligibility (and presumably where the link will appear once it opens) go to this link.

Please note that I am not a grant writer – if you need writing assistance I suggest you contact GrantsPlus Consulting.  If you’d like to include a business coaching or business strategic planning component in your application, I’d be happy to talk to you helping you with this and providing a quote.
